2027 Henckel Family Reunion and Annual Meeting to be the weekend of June 18-20.
Germany Valley and Moorefield, West Virginia
Our 2027 annual reunion and business meeting will be held in historic Germany Valley and Moorefield West Virginia June 18 – 20, 2027. Germany Valley is the area the Henckel’s settled in in 1759 – 1760 upon their return from North Carolina. There John Justus Henkel built the Henckel’s Fort on his property. We look forward to another informative chapter of our family’s remarkable story in Moorefield and Germany Valley, West Virginia. Please join us.

2026 Reunion Held in New Market, Virginia
The Henckel Family National Association gathered June 19–21, 2026, in historic New Market, Virginia, for a memorable weekend of fellowship, history, and family celebration. Forty-two family members and friends from 11 states came together to reconnect, share stories, and honor the generations who have preserved the Henckel family legacy.
The weekend began Friday evening with a welcoming reception at Southern Kitchen Restaurant. On Saturday, attendees gathered at historic Emmanuel Lutheran Church, founded by Rev. Paul Henkel, whose ministry helped establish Lutheran congregations throughout several states, including Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Ohio, Kentucky and Missouri.
Saturday’s program included updates on the preservation of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Emmanuel Cemetery, the Association’s finances and website, and a moving tribute to Joseph F. Tusing II, who passed away March 5, 2026. Joe’s dedication to genealogy, local history, and the Henckel family will continue to benefit generations of descendants.
Family members enjoyed a picnic lunch at New Market Park before touring the Historic Henkel (Hinkle) House, owned by Joe Tusing. Gretchen Tusing Hendricks, Joe Tusing’s daughter shared stories about the historic home, its preservation, and its connection to the Henckel family and New Market.
The reunion concluded Saturday evening with the Annual Banquet and Business Meeting at Southern Kitchen Restaurant. Vice President Greg Adamson presented an informative program on the life and ministry of Rev. Paul Henkel (1754–1825) and his remarkable work establishing Lutheran congregations across the American frontier.
The Association extends sincere appreciation to all officers, presenters, volunteers, hosts, and family members who helped make the reunion a success. As everyone returned home, they carried with them new memories, renewed friendships, and a deeper appreciation for the heritage that continues to unite the Henckel family across generations.
The association has available The Henckel Genealogy (The Big Red Book) for $95.00.
The association also has available the Rev. Paul Henkel book for $30.00.
